Asterisk Linux is a specialised version of Linux which operates thin
client workstations connecting to all common forms of server – Windows,
Citrix, Unix and Linux. Although the operating system is Linux the user
experiences the server environment, be it Windows, Citrix etc. With
Asterisk Linux the benefits of server-based computing are within the
reach of every business, not just large corporations.
The system is designed to run inside hardware appliances built for a
specific purpose - hybrid thin / fat client workstations capable of
running some local applications and acting as a thin client PC where
required.
Technical specifications:
Thin Client Support
- MS Windows Terminal Server (RDP V4 & V5)
- Citrix (Including support for NFuse and published applications)
- Linux Terminal Server (VNC and LTSP)
- Web browser (Mozilla) supporting Macromedia Flash
- Terminal Emulation (supports VT100, telnet and SSH clients)
ScreenDouble - The foolproof helpdesk
With Asterisk's 'ScreenDouble' technology a network helpdesk can
connect to any user's session and use 'show and tell' to help the user
through the problem. The helpdesk not only sees the user's session but
shares control of the keyboard and mouse. Unlike comparable products,
ScreenDouble is workstation-based and does not require the user to be
logged into a server to work. ScreenDouble feature is available through
VNC viewer which makes this accessible on any operating system.
Remote Upgrade
Keeping the operating system current is as simple as selecting the
upgrade option on startup. The upgrade process can be left to run on
its own after initial user interaction at startup, rebooting itself
when finished. This feature ensures that the system will remain
up-to-date and useful for the life of the machine.

Firewall inside
The operating system is built on top of Asterisk's Firefly diskless
firewall software, so inside every Asterisk Linux device there is also
a powerful firewall engine.
Built from the latest production-proven Linux
kernel, this firewall and router software can be custom-built to
provide secure, transparent Internet connectivity and Virtual Private
Networking. Read more about
Asterisk
Firefly Gateway.
Remote Workstation
An Asterisk Linux-powered workstation can be deployed as a point of
sale or remote warehouse. When deploying a remote warehouse or branch
with one there is no need to set up any network infrastructure. The
internal firewall will establish a secure VPN connection over the
internet (via DSL, Cable, wireless or other broadband connection) to a
central server while also serving as a terminal workstation. The device
can also host local print queues, so there is no need to set-up remote
network printers, or rely on Terminal Server local printing. Remote
scanning and Citrix com port redirection is also supported.
Asterisk Support
Support is available* anywhere, anytime, either over the phone or Internet. Online help is in both PDF and HTML format for easy navigation or printing. Our technicians can answer your queries directly or respond to an email if necessary utilising the 'ScreenDouble' feature to solve any problem. With a 'phone home' capability the Asterisk workstation provides detailed information directly to a technician supporting even the most non-technical user.
